In September, Mission 14 Founder & CEO Nick Cienski began the final chapter of the 6 Summits Challenge by attempting the summit of Manaslu in Nepal to continue raising awareness and funds to fight against human trafficking and the sex trafficking of children. Despite earthquakes, avalanches and geopolitical forces standing in his way, Nick's decision to ascend once again into 26,759' of thin air was grounded in his desire to continue raising awareness and funds to battle modern day slavery. The battle remains difficult, long term, and rife with set-backs, however Nick and all of us are convicted that in order to win we must PERSEVERE. What Nick is doing is not for everyone, but EVERYONE can do something. Please help us spread the word by sharing this page with friends and family on your social media networks and via email. Every act, no matter how small, helps us in our efforts to end child sex slavery throughout the world.
The 6 Summits Challenge was dramatically changed after the spring climbs of Lhotse, Mount Everest, and Makalu were canceled after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal caused a fatal avalanche at Everest base camp on April 25, 2015. Nick's next summit challenges in Pakistan and again in Nepal were plagued with unseasonable snow falls and avalanches closing these mountains to climbers there as well. Yet the desperation that persists in the earthquakes aftermath in Nepal and war torn regions such as the Middle East and Africa is unabated and your help is needed now more than ever.
Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery that degrades our social fabric, debases our shared humanity, destroys peace, and fuels injustices. Every day, around the world, human traffickers prey on people who are poor, isolated and weak. Children in particular are sold, bonded, trafficked, subjected to commercial sexual exploitation, recruited into armed conflicts, and forced to work as domestic workers.
But too few of us know the facts about human trafficking: there are more than 35 million people are enslaved, 4.5 million are victims of sex trafficking, and 2 million of those in the sex trade are children under the age of 18. Tragically, slavery is growing and the fastest growing criminal industry in the world. In every community, city, and state across our country there are 100,000 – 300,000 individuals at risk right now.
